International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP)

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs funds and administers the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), one of its premier professional exchange programs. The IVLP is designed to build mutual understanding between the United States and other countries through carefully designed visits that reflect the participants’ professional interests and support U.S. foreign policy goals. The IVLP is carried out through close collaboration with 8 non-profit program agencies in Washington, D.C. and over 90 community-based organizations across the U.S. (such as UCCD) whose members arrange professional meetings, cultural activities and home hospitality for the visitors. These organizations are members of the National Council for International Visitors (NCIV).

Our speakers come from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds and are nationally recognized authors, academics and foreign affairs experts.

Global Lunch Forum

Global Lunch Forums provide UCCD Members, Westminster College faculty and staff, and other community members, the opportunity to meet with International Visitors in an informal lunchtime roundtable discussion, and to gain insights into a broad range of international issues. Forums are held monthly, and are free and open to all. RSVP is not required. Participants are invited to bring their own lunch (cookies and water provided).

International Book Group

The International Book Group meets once a month on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at the King's English Bookshop (1511 South 1500 East). The Group reads for pleasure to learn about other countries, customs, and cultures through fiction and non-fiction. Participants need not read the literature to enjoy the informal discussions, but it is highly recommended. Participants register in person at the King’s English Bookshop or email Wendy Foster Leigh, Book Group Leader. Registration is free and open to all. Books are available for purchase at the King’s English. Members of the Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy or of the King’s English receive a 10% discount.

Global IQ with The Economist

The Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy, in partnership with the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth (WACDFW), organizes a monthly online audiocast that connects UCCD Members with journalists of The Economist magazine and allows them to learn, and ask questions, about pressing global issues. This program is offered free of charge to UCCD Members.
