In a time when there are more displaced people than ever before, LGBTQI+ people are uniquely vulnerable due to systemic, state-enabled homophobia and transphobia, resulting in an epidemic of violence and persecution. Join Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy as we welcome Dane Bland with Rainbow Railroad as he discusses how they help LGBTQI+ individuals worldwide find safety and access lives free from persecution, and what individuals in Utah can do to be part of the solution.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Dane, Director of Development and Communication for Rainbow Railroad, is a not-for-profit leader focused on translating development activities to social betterment, political action, advocacy, and systemic change.
Dane Bland has over 10 years of experience in the charitable and not-for-profit sector, including in human rights, arts & culture, education and healthcare. Dane is a Certified Fundraising Executive, and a graduate of the Trent University Business Administration Program and Seneca College Fundraising Management postgraduate certificate program. Dane is a board member for the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Canada’s national board, a board member of the AFP Greater Toronto Area, and a board member of the Workforce Development Board of the Peterborough Region. Dane has been a CFRE Ambassador for Ontario since 2019.
When not working, Dane is a hockey fan, a dog lover (and owner), a once-decent golfer, a self-professed “culture vulture” and a lover of all things arts and heritage.
