Utah Global Diplomacy welcomed the Volunteerism: Civic Action program to Salt Lake in May 2017. Among those visiting included Mr. Primitivo Ferraris Paypon, Jr., Founder and President of The Dream Project PH. Mr. Paypon oversees the creation of projects including sustainable programs and community-based enterprises to combat poverty throughout the Philippines. While in Utah, Mr. Paypon was interested in learning more about the role of youth empowerment and social entrepreneurship to promote economic growth.

Members of the Volunteerism: Civic Action program explored numerous resources in Salt Lake including the Utah Food Bank, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah, and participated in a volunteer activity at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian Center.

Mr. Paypon shared with Utah Global Diplomacy, “Because of the effective and organized facilitation of Utah Global Diplomacy, Salt Lake City became my favorite stop and US state during my International Visitors Leadership Program 2017. Because it carefully picked appropriate organizations and sites for visit, I was able to learn new approaches and inspiring stories in creating more sustainable and impactful projects. When I returned to the Philippines, I instantly revisited my non-government organization's body of work to apply better practices I learned from my IVLP experience, especially from Salt Lake City, Utah.”
