A Global Knowledge Competition
Academic WorldQuest is a global knowledge competition for high school students and becomes more fun & fierce each year as foreign policy buffs, United Nations enthusiasts, young international entrepreneurs, global change agents, and the universally curious mix, mingle, laugh, and compete for victory. Our event is Utah's official qualifying competition for the national competition, hosted each spring by the World Affairs Councils of America.
The [Virtual] 2021 Competition was a massive success! Congrats to all of the students who participated. Best of luck at the national competition, and we'll see you again next year!
What is Academic WorldQuest?
Teams of four students compete by answering a set of questions in six global categories. The questions test a student's knowledge of current affairs, world leaders, geography, recent history, flags, international organization, countries, regions, the world economy, culture, religion, and more.
This year, the categories were:
- Global Protests
- International Labour Organization (ILO)
- The U.S. Foreign Service in the 21st Century
- Exploring Peace in a World of Conflict
- Fraying Alliances
- Looking to a Post-Pandemic Economy
A study guide will be provided to teams upon registration.
The three top-scoring high school teams (grades 9-12) will win the opportunity to compete at the National Academic WorldQuest competition held on April 16 - 17, 2021, and they will be invited to attend a dinner with a top Utah leader. The top-scoring high school team will win a cash prize. Additional prizes are available in other categories.
