Letter from the CEO May 2023

Dear Friends of Utah Global Diplomacy,

Utah Global Diplomacy needs your help! We are seeking short-term host families for 14 Iraqi youths from July 11-23, 2023.

APPLY HERE

For many years, we have hosted the Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP), where English-speaking Iraqi high school students visit Utah to learn how to become community leaders. This program is part of the U.S. Embassy-Baghdad and Department of State program, implemented by World Learning. During the weekdays, students will participate in activities and experiential learning activities, exposing them to leadership development opportunities, creating inclusive communities, and exploring Utah's unique culture. IYLEP is unique in that the visiting high school students fully immerse themselves in the American experience by staying in the homes of local Utah families or individuals instead of a hotel during their time here.

Responsibilities of host families include the following:

  • Provide a private bedroom for each student in a home in or near the Salt Lake Valley.
  • Provide the student with dinner and breakfast on most days.
  • Provide transportation in the morning and evening for the student to and from Utah Global Diplomacy's office during the week. (If this is an issue, let us know, and we can find a solution.)

Hosting these students is a great way to build international bridges and introduce intercultural diversity into your home! If you are interested in hosting, please fill out this form.
